Troops from the 12th Brigade, operating under Operation MESA, neutralised a suspected terrorist and seized weapons and ammunition during an ambush in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Lake Chad counter‑insurgency and security expert Zagazola Makara announced the operation on X.
Makara said the mission followed credible intelligence about suspected terrorist activity near the Jakura 2 community.
He added that soldiers set an ambush at a suspected crossing point on the old Obajana–Tajimi Road early in the operation.
During the encounter, one suspect was neutralised while others reportedly fled the scene.
The recovered items included an AK‑47 rifle, five magazines—three of which were loaded with a total of 70 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition—a bandolier, and a mobile phone.
Makara described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal and terrorist activities within the brigade’s area of responsibility.
“Troops have continued domination patrols in the area to prevent the movement of criminal elements and enhance security for residents,” he said.
“The recovered items are expected to aid further intelligence and investigative efforts,” he added.
