Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North‑West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, killed two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and seized weapons and ammunition during an operation on the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State.
The operation took place on June 27 after intelligence indicated that the terrorists were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.
Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, released a statement on Sunday detailing the action.
He said that troops from the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 were quickly deployed to the area and set up a tactical ambush along the route the terrorists were expected to use, in order to prevent the planned assault.
“The successful operation followed credible intelligence indicating that the terrorists were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community,” Danja said. “Acting swiftly on the information, troops mobilised to the area and established a tactical ambush along the terrorists’ suspected route of advance in order to foil the planned attack.”
Danja explained that the troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle as they approached the ambush point.
“As the terrorists approached the ambush position, the troops engaged them with overwhelming firepower, resulting in a fierce gun battle. The superior combat effectiveness of the troops forced the terrorists into disarray, with two of the terrorists neutralised, while the remaining members of the group fled into the surrounding forest,” he added.
According to Danja, the operation also recovered two AK‑47 rifles, two AK‑47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle.
He reaffirmed Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s commitment to continuing offensive actions against terrorist groups and other criminal elements in the North‑West.
He said the operation remains focused on protecting lives and property while intensifying efforts to dismantle terrorist and criminal networks in the region.
Danja urged the public to keep supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information to strengthen ongoing counter‑terrorism operations.
