Edo State Police Command announced that on 26 June 2026, its officers arrested Taiye Enahoro and Lucky Alabi on charges of self‑kidnapping.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, said the arrest was carried out by an operative from the Igarra Division after reliable intelligence was received.

According to the statement, a preliminary investigation found that the alleged “criminal plan” was carried out on 23 June 2026. Enahoro reportedly made several telephone calls to relatives of Alabi, falsely claiming that Alabi had been kidnapped and demanding a ransom of N4,000,000 for his release.

The officers confirmed that the suspects admitted to their roles in the staged kidnapping and that they will be charged when the investigation concludes.

Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, warned the public against engaging in criminal deception, including staged kidnappings used to extort money from unsuspecting relatives.

“The Command reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that all persons involved in criminal acts are brought to justice,” the PPRO added. “Members of the public are urged to report suspicious activities promptly.”
