It’s a shame not to be at 2026 W/Cup – Super Eagles star

A record ten African teams will be present at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place in Mexico, Canada and the United States next week.

The teams representing Africa will be Algeria, Cape Verde, Congo DR, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia.

Nigeria, a traditional powerhouse of African football, will miss the tournament for the second consecutive edition after a defeat to Congo DR in the playoff.

FC Porto forward Zaidu Sanusi said that it is unusual for ten African teams to qualify without Nigeria.

“I must say it’s not normal to have ten teams in Africa without Nigeria. It has happened and we have to ensure that it doesn’t happen again. We need to take our spot as the giants of Africa and make it count next time,” he said.

Sanusi is looking forward to the friendly match against Portugal after featuring in the full second half of the 2‑2 draw with Poland two days ago.

“I will be at home in a way and hopefully we get the result that will be good for our morale going forward.”
