Senator Elisha Abbo, who represented Adamawa North Senatorial District in the 9th Senate, has been selected as the Labour Party’s candidate for governor of Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 presidential and general elections.
Abbo’s emergence as the party’s flag bearer followed an official clearance by the national leadership on Saturday, after a screening exercise and a consensus declaration.
In a statement following the announcement, Senator Abbo reaffirmed his commitment to purposeful leadership, economic revitalisation, youth empowerment, and improved infrastructure across Adamawa State. He also stressed the urgent need for inclusive governance that prioritises the welfare of citizens, job creation, education, healthcare, and security.
Political observers see his selection as a significant development in Adamawa’s political landscape, given his established profile and influence within the state. His candidacy is expected to intensify political activities as parties and stakeholders prepare for the 2027 elections.
Abbo said that, with the party’s ticket secured, he would begin extensive consultations and wide grassroots mobilisation across the state’s 21 local government areas to build support ahead of the governorship election.
This move marks another major step in the evolving political realignments ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle, as parties continue to attract key figures to shape Adamawa State’s future governance.
