On Sunday, Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice‑presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), met with the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, to discuss the recent court ruling concerning the NDC’s registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The Daily Post reports that the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, set aside its December 10, 2025 decision that had required the electoral body to register the NDC as a political party.
In suit No. FHC/LKJ/CS/49/2025, Justice Isah Dashen ruled that the earlier judgment was issued without hearing all required parties, rendering the proceedings constitutionally defective.
The decision came after an application by the Peace Movement Party, which contended that it had a legal interest in the case and should have been joined before the judgment was rendered.
The ruling has drawn criticism from opposition parties, who accuse President Bola Tinubu’s administration of attempting to manipulate the judiciary.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Senator Dickson confirmed the meeting with Kwankwaso, noting that they discussed issues of mutual interest to the party.
The NDC leader said that he and other party leaders have resolved to reject the alleged one‑party democracy.
He added, “We reaffirmed our resolve to stand together in the fight for multi‑party democracy. I briefed him on the measures the party is taking to correct and redress the disruptions caused by the anomalous Federal High Court ruling. We are on course.”
