FCT CP warns officers against misconduct, launches crime response unit

By Kingsley Omonobi

ABUJA — Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, cautioned officers against misconduct, abuse of authority, harassment, and extortion of residents, declaring that such behaviour would not be tolerated.

Sanusi delivered the warning on Monday during the official inauguration of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) at the former SARS office in Guzape Junction, Abuja.

He explained that the creation of the VCRU is part of a broader effort to strengthen the fight against armed robbery, kidnapping, violent attacks, and other serious crimes in the FCT.

The unit is organised into five operational sectors across the territory to enhance coverage, intelligence gathering, and rapid response to security threats.

Sanusi noted that officers assigned to the VCRU undergo rigorous screening and training, and that their operations must be guided by professionalism, discipline, accountability, and respect for human rights.

He also urged residents to assist security agencies by providing timely information, stressing that effective policing depends on cooperation between the public and law enforcement.

The ceremony was attended by senior security officials, including representatives from the Nigerian Army, Air Force, Navy, Immigration Service, NDLEA, FRSC, as well as traditional rulers and community stakeholders.

The FCT Police Command encouraged residents to report suspicious activities through designated emergency lines.
