IBADAN — The Oyo State Police Command has announced that its investigation into the abduction of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John‑Paul and her 12‑year‑old twin sons has revealed the alleged involvement of an insider who supplied information to the kidnappers.
DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, a spokesperson for the command, made the statement during an interview in which he also provided an update on the case.
The victims, Mrs. John‑Paul, who is a sister of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons were taken on 3 June 2026 in the Elewura area of Ring Road, Ibadan.
They were later rescued during a police operation that resulted in the deaths of two suspected kidnappers, according to the police.
Ayanlade said that one of the main suspects, identified as Ololu, had already been on the police watch list prior to his arrest.
He added that intelligence gathered during the investigation led to the arrest of another suspect known as Dare, also referred to as Solution.
According to the spokesperson, investigators also arrested a personal assistant who worked for the family and is alleged to have provided the kidnappers with information about the family’s movements and routine.
The police further alleged that the suspects had originally planned to abduct the mother but changed their target after learning about the family’s daily activities.
Ayanlade said the victims were located at a hideout in Ibadan and rescued during an operation carried out on 6 June.
He stated that two suspects were killed during a gunfight with security operatives, and weapons were recovered from the scene.
The police said investigations are ongoing and that efforts are being intensified to apprehend other suspects who are believed to have escaped.
