Warri-Itakpe train derails, four coaches affected — NRC

ABUJA — The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed that four coaches of the Warri-Itakpe Train Service derailed on Monday.

The corporation issued a statement through its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kayode Opeifa, noting that emergency response teams and relevant authorities had been dispatched to the site.

According to the NRC, officials are currently managing the situation and providing necessary assistance.

“The Nigerian Railway Corporation confirms that an incident involving the Warri-Itakpe Train Service occurred today. Emergency response teams and relevant authorities are currently at the scene attending to the situation and providing necessary assistance,” the statement said.

Opeifa added that the corporation was closely monitoring developments and would supply further details as more information becomes available.

He clarified that four coaches left the rail track during the incident, an event referred to in railway operations as a derailment.

The NRC urged the public to remain calm and rely on official communication channels for verified information.

At the time of filing this report, the cause of the derailment and any information regarding possible casualties had not been disclosed.
