On Thursday, South Africa became the sixth African nation to secure a win in the current 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Bafana Bafana beat South Korea 1‑0 in their last Group A match at Mexico City Stadium, with Thapelo Maseko scoring in the second half.
The victory secured South Africa a second‑place finish in Group A, giving them four points and a place in the Round of 32.
Prior to facing South Korea, South Africa had lost 2‑0 to Mexico in their opening match and drew 1‑1 with Czechia in the second game.
According to DAILY POST, the other African teams that have registered a win in the tournament to date are Egypt, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Morocco.
Ivory Coast was the first African side to win a World Cup match, beating Ecuador 1‑0 in their opening game.
Ghana followed as the second African nation to secure a win, defeating Panama 1‑0.
Morocco became the third African side to win, beating Scotland 1‑0 in their second Group C match, and later defeated Haiti 4‑2 in their final group game on Wednesday.
Egypt became the fourth African team to win, defeating New Zealand 3‑1.
Algeria became the fifth African side to win, beating Jordan 2‑1 on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Senegal, Cape Verde, DR Congo, and Tunisia have not yet secured a win.
