Troost‑Ekong explains the mistake that cost Nwabali a Super Eagles cap under Chelle.

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost‑Ekong discussed how Stanley Nwabali lost the starting goalkeeper position in the national squad.

Since his contract with Chippa United was terminated, Nwabali has not received an invitation to the national team from head coach Eric Chelle.

Troost‑Ekong thinks this explains why Chelle has selected Maduka Okoye in recent games.

He said: “Obviously, I can’t speak for Stanley, but based on how things have unfolded, it might have been wiser for him to stay with Chippa.”

“I’m speaking from the outside, as we are unaware of what transpired between him and the club.”

Nwabali remains clubless and hopes to sign with a new team during the summer transfer window.
