The Super Eagles secured their second consecutive Unity Cup title with a decisive 3‑0 victory over Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz in the final held at Charlton Athletic’s Valley Ground, Afrik Foot reports.
Nigeria opened the scoring within the first three minutes when Alhassan Yusuf capitalised on a rebound after Jamaican goalkeeper Coniah Boyce‑Clarke parried a shot. The ball fell to Yusuf, who headed it past an empty net.
Terem Moffi doubled the lead at the 60‑minute mark, finishing a cross from Femi Azeez. Alhassan added a third goal in the 91st minute, sealing a comprehensive win for Eric Chelle’s side.

1. Femi Azeez is here to stay
The Millwall winger, who scored a brace on his debut against Zimbabwe, provided the assist for Moffi’s goal against Jamaica. His performances have earned him a place in the squad that will face Portugal and Poland in the upcoming June friendlies, giving him a chance to prove himself against top opposition and potentially secure a spot in the senior team ahead of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers in September.

Midfield partners Tochukwu Nnadi and Alhassan Yusuf were selected by Chelle for the Unity Cup matches, and both delivered performances that matched the coach’s tactical instructions. Since Akor Adams’ debut in October 2025, the Super Eagles have clarified that the Sevilla striker will partner Victor Osimhen in a 4‑4‑2 diamond formation. Other forwards such as Cyriel Dessers, Paul Onuachu and Tolu Arokodare have remained peripheral options, but Moffi’s displays against Jamaica and Zimbabwe have positioned him as a viable alternative.

The 2026 Unity Cup demonstrated that the Super Eagles can compete at any level of a major tournament. Even without household names such as Ola Aina, Calvin Bassey, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen, the team’s quality remained uncompromised. Players like Chibuike Nwaiwu and Igoh Ogbu proved they can step in for the stars, indicating a deeper squad than in previous years and making Nigeria a formidable side in African football.

Across various player groups, Chelle has shaped the Nigerian team into one with a strong playing style and a clear philosophy. He has also integrated young talents, helping them blend with experienced players as they grow into the role of representing the Super Eagles. If the Nigerian Football Federation intends to advance the team’s prospects, renewing Chelle’s contract should be a priority.
