Opta’s supercomputer has assigned Morocco a 1.9% probability of winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup, placing the North African side 12th overall in the forecast and ahead of every other African team, according to Morocco World News.
Senegal follows as the next highest‑ranked African team, positioned 19th with a 1.4% chance of lifting the trophy.
“Morocco… are the highest‑rated African team after they were superbly shock semi‑finalists in Qatar,” Opta stated.
“The supercomputer expects Morocco to pose a real threat, and their opener against Brazil on 13 June is perhaps the standout fixture in the first week of the tournament,” they added.
Spain emerges as the overall favorite to win the tournament with a 16.1% probability. France follows closely in second place with a 13% chance, while England ranks third at 11.2%.

The tournament hosts are not expected to be in contention for the title. Opta reports that the United States has just a 1.2% chance of winning the trophy, while Mexico stands at 1%. Canada faces even steeper odds, with less than a 1% chance of becoming world champions on home soil.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 kicks off on 11 June. Morocco will play in Group C, starting with a high‑profile match against Brazil on 13 June in New Jersey.
The Atlas Lions will then travel to Boston to face Scotland on 19 June, before playing their final group game against Haiti in Atlanta on 24 June.
