Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane says he is a leading contender for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, especially if England wins the 2026 World Cup.

After an impressive 61‑goal season with Bayern Munich, Kane noted that winning a major international trophy would solidify his status as a favourite for the award.

“I’d be one of the favourites, definitely,” Kane told the club’s website. “Given the trophies I’ve won this season and the number of goals I’ve scored, I’d be in the running.”

“Especially as, should England win the World Cup, one could imagine the trophy going to an English player.” This candid assessment shows his clear understanding that club form alone might not be enough.

“When you look at who the current favourites are to win the Ballon d’Or, there’s Michael Olise, the Champions League finalists and me,” he added.

Kane will be hoping to deliver a first tournament success since 1966 over the summer, which would greatly boost his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or – an honour that has not been claimed by an Englishman since Michael Owen in 2001.

The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony is scheduled to be held in London.
