Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) has refuted claims that hoodlums might soon target its campus.
The clarification came after a social media post caused concern.
In a statement released on Friday, the university said the unverified social media post had the potential to create panic among students, staff, parents, and the wider university community.
The statement, issued by Head of Public Relations and Protocol Anyaso Anyaso, assured students and staff that the university’s security unit, working with relevant law‑enforcement agencies, investigated the allegations and found no credible evidence.
While emphasizing that the safety of students, staff and visitors is a top priority, the university said its security personnel are working around the clock in close collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, including additional patrols.
MOUAU warned the public against using social media to create tensions and urged students and staff to dispel any fears and resume normal academic activities.
