Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), repelled an attempted invasion by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers during a failed assault in Borno State.
A security source confirmed on Friday that the incident took place in the early hours of June 19, 2026, when terrorists launched coordinated attacks on military sites around Dutsen Kura and the Chara Road axis in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area.
The area is a strategic corridor that links Biu, Buni Yadi, and Damaturu, a route that has frequently been affected by insecurity.
According to the source, troops reacted swiftly after detecting the incursion, engaging the attackers with superior firepower in a coordinated ground and air counter‑offensive.
The Nigerian Air Force supplied intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and precision air support, working in synergy with ground troops to disrupt the assault and force the terrorists to retreat.
“The prompt and effective employment of air and ground assets proved decisive. The terrorists suffered significant losses in personnel and equipment, while troops recorded no casualties,” the source said.
He added that OPHK troops’ sustained offensive capability continues to deny insurgents freedom of action across the theater of operations.
The military urged residents to keep providing timely intelligence to security agencies, noting that ongoing operations aim to further degrade terrorist capabilities and restore lasting peace in the region.
Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining pressure on insurgents and ensuring the safety of communities in the North East.
