The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) responsible for Zone 9 Headquarters in Umuahia, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has died.

Abia State Governor Alex Otti announced the sad news on Saturday in Umuahia, stating that the senior police officer succumbed to cancer after a prolonged battle.

Governor Otti expressed profound sorrow over the loss of the late AIG, describing him as a diligent, hardworking, and committed officer who served the nation with dedication and professionalism.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of Uzuegbu’s soul and asked God to grant his family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones the strength to endure this irreparable loss.

A minute’s silence was observed in honour of the deceased police chief at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, where Governor Otti delivered his acceptance speech after being elected as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for a second term ahead of the 2027 election.

The death of AIG Uzuegbu has drawn grief from members of the police community and other stakeholders who knew him during his distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force.
