Unidentified gunmen entered Ora‑Igbomina, a community in Ifedayo Local Government Council Area of Osun State, and abducted the council vice‑chairman, Debo Faroumbi.
The attack occurred at night on Tuesday. The gunmen fired sporadically into the air, creating panic among residents.
During the raid, the assailants seized four people, including two Fulani women, a local resident, and Mr. Faroumbi.
Security forces stationed in the town quickly responded. A military unit pursued the gunmen, forcing them to abandon three of the victims. The assailants then took the council official into a nearby forest.
Osun State Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed the incident, stating that the victim is the Ifedayo council vice‑chairman. He added that police have launched a manhunt for the suspects in an effort to rescue the abducted official.
“Yes, some yet‑to‑be‑identified gunmen stormed Ora‑Igbomina in Ifedayo Local Government, abducting four persons. But military engagement forced them to abandon three victims,” Ojelabi said. “They eventually succeeded in taking Debo Faroumbi into the forest with them and police and other security agencies have launched a manhunt for the suspects.”
