Amid rumors that the relationship between Governor Umo Eno and his predecessor and political mentor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has soured, Gov Eno told reporters that he would never join anyone in speaking ill of Emmanuel.

During his third‑anniversary media briefing on Saturday at the Government House banquet hall in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, the governor recalled how former Governor Emmanuel single‑handedly selected him and helped secure his victory in the 2023 elections.

He said, “Politics was not my career path, but God put me in the heart of Udom Emmanuel; he did everything for me.”

“Therefore, I will not join you people to say anything about past leaders in the State. Maybe I’m not a good politician, but there are certain things I can’t do.”

“In my next world, I will like to be a politician so that I will be able to tell you lies. But, we are trying as a government to bring the dividends of democracy to our people.”

Addressing the slow progress of some projects, the governor warned that non‑performing contracts would be terminated to prevent waste of public funds.

“The administration is currently executing numerous strategic road projects across the State, including the dualisation of Ring Road III, the reconstruction of the Ikot Akpaden–Iko Road with bridges, among others,” he said.

Regarding potholes in Uyo, the governor pledged to establish a committee that would include journalists and civil society organisations to monitor potholes in their respective areas.

On the issue of poor power supply, the governor urged citizens to remain patient with the government, noting that fundamental and implementation frameworks must be followed to ensure a steady power supply in the State.
