Female teacher allegedly beaten to death in Kogi state

A female teacher was reportedly beaten to death in Ugbamaka, Okpo District, Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, after disciplining a student.

The incident was reported in a post on X by Lake Chad region security and counter‑insurgency expert Zagazola Makama.

Reports indicate the incident followed the teacher’s disciplinary action against a student.

The student’s father is alleged to have confronted the teacher over the punishment, and the confrontation reportedly escalated into violence that caused her death.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents and education stakeholders, many of whom have voiced concerns about teacher safety and the rising number of attacks on educators during their duties.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement.

An investigation is expected to be launched to ascertain the circumstances of the teacher’s death and to hold those responsible accountable.
