Ahmed Sanusi, the newly appointed Commissioner of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police, cautioned officers against engaging in extortion while performing their duties.

He delivered the warning on Saturday at a strategic briefing about current security and traffic enforcement initiatives in Abuja.

The new FCT police chief made it clear that the command will no longer tolerate uniformed officers who extort commercial tricycle (keke) riders and motorists throughout Abuja.

He said that public complaints about police extortion have reached a tipping point, and his administration is ready to root out the offenders.

“We don’t want to hear any reports of extorting Keke riders or motorists in Abuja. If we hear it, you are a thief.”

“You cannot be both a police officer and a thief. You have to choose one,” he said.
