France forward Ousmane Dembele made history on Friday by scoring a hat‑trick in the nation’s final group‑stage match of the World Cup, a 4‑1 win over Norway.
Dembele’s three goals, along with a strike from Desire Doué, secured the victory for the hosts.
The hat‑trick, completed just 32 minutes into the game, is the second fastest ever recorded in a FIFA World Cup match, according to OptaJoe.
Only Erich Probst, who scored in 24 minutes for Austria against Czechoslovakia in 1954, was faster.
Dembele now has four goals from three World Cup matches.
The Ballon d’Or winner found the net against Iraq on Monday as France won 3‑0 in their second World Cup game.
He will now aim to steer France to victory when they face Sweden in the Round of 32 knockout stage on Tuesday.
