The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Ibadan (UI) has confirmed that a 300‑level female law student, known only as Tomisin, was abducted. The union urges calm while it works to secure her safe return.
In a statement from SUG President Comrade Temidayo Adeboye, Tomisin was traveling on a religious retreat with National General Director of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship, Engr. Uwem Cosmos, and eight other participants.
Tomisin serves as National Secretary of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship, Nigeria, and is also Vice‑President of the Scripture Union, University of Ibadan chapter.
The union rejected reports that eight UI students were missing, clarifying that Tomisin is the only student from the university currently unaccounted for.
According to Adeboye, the union has “initiated the necessary engagements to ascertain the facts surrounding the situation” and has already contacted relevant religious organisations and security agencies to facilitate appropriate intervention.
Reports say Tomisin was returning from the Scripture Union National Conference at the Camp of Faith in Okigwe, Imo State, when communication with her was lost.
Her absence was noted after she failed to sit for faculty examinations on Monday and Tuesday.
Another UI student from the Department of Music, who also attended the conference, returned safely, but the vehicle carrying the General Director remains unaccounted for.
Confirming the incident, Dean of Student Affairs Dr Ademola Lewis said the university was aware of the event, although it had not been informed beforehand about the trip.
Lewis added that efforts were already underway to ensure the student’s safe return and urged the university community to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information that could inflame the situation.
