Veteran Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji returns to the screen after almost eight years, taking a lead role in BBC Studios’ forthcoming thriller series, Wahala.

The actress, whose most recent on‑screen role was in the 2018 film Lionheart, will appear in the six‑part drama adaptation of Wahala, a novel authored by BAFTA‑nominated screenwriter Theresa Ikoko.

The series, produced by BBC Studios via its Firebird Pictures division, is slated to broadcast on BBC One and be available on BBC iPlayer.

The production’s cast also includes Adelayo Adedayo, Deborah Ayorinde, Cush Jumbo and Susan Wokoma.

Adapted from the novel Wahala by Nikki May, the thriller follows four Nigerian‑British women living in London as hidden secrets, complex friendships and troubling memories surface.

Commenting on her return to acting, Nnaji called the project exciting and deeply engaging.

“I’m very happy to be joining Wahala and to be working with such a brilliant team. It’s an intriguing story, and I’m excited to be a part of it,” she said.

Executive producer Elizabeth Kilgarriff also voiced confidence in the series, calling the cast lineup exceptional.

“We are so proud to be announcing our incredible cast for Wahala and can’t wait to see them breathe life into these wonderful characters,” she stated.

Nnaji’s return is already sparking excitement among fans, particularly after her hiatus following the directorial debut of Lionheart, a film that became one of Nigeria’s most discussed works worldwide.
