The Abia State Government has announced the installation of computerized vehicle inspection centres in Umuahia and Aba. These centres are designed to assess the roadworthiness of vehicles operating within the state.

According to the government, the new facilities are now fully operational and aim to reduce accidents and eliminate the presence of unsafe, rickety vehicles on Abia roads.

Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, made the announcement at the Government House in Umuahia. He spoke to journalists about the outcomes of the recent Abia State Executive Council meeting, which was chaired by Governor Alex Otti.

Commissioner Kanu explained that the computerized equipment will detect mechanical defects and other faults, thereby protecting commuters and other road users from potential harm.

Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, also addressed the press. He reported that staff of the Abia State Passenger Integrated Manifest and Safety Scheme (ASPIMSS), who had been owed salary arrears, have now been incorporated into the state civil service system.

Mr. Ekeoma assured the affected workers that their salary arrears would be paid in the near future.
