Youth activists in Takum Local Government Council, Taraba State, have urged the state government to investigate claims of unlawful money collection under the pretext of a government registration program.

A report submitted to Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas alleges that unidentified individuals have been demanding a fee of N1,000 from elderly residents and young people in several communities within the council.

These individuals reportedly say the payment is necessary for registration in a federal program called “Renewed Hope.”

The youths noted that this practice has occurred repeatedly and is not the first time residents in the area and nearby communities have faced similar incidents.

In a protest letter signed by Christopher Tanimu, the activists expressed concern that the alleged activities are generating fear, financial loss, and distress among residents, especially vulnerable members of the community.

They called on the state government to launch an urgent investigation and to take measures to protect affected citizens from further exploitation.

“We are bringing this matter to your attention because we believe you are a listening governor and we trust your administration,” the statement read.

The youths also conveyed goodwill toward the state and its leadership, praying for peace and progress in Takum, Taraba State, and Nigeria as a whole.
