The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 84‑year‑old Godfrey Orji and 75‑year‑old Godwin Obulunbiya Obiora for allegedly selling illicit drugs to teenage secondary school students in Umuahia, the capital of Abia state.

Femi Babafemi, Director of Media & Advocacy for the agency, said Pa Obiora was taken into custody on Friday, 19 June 2026 after credible intelligence that he was distributing illicit substances to young students and others in his patent medicine shop at 4 Club Road, Umuahia. A search of the premises uncovered 4.64 kilograms of opioids, including tramadol and diazepam.

According to the statement, Pa Orji, a pensioner, was also seized by security guards at Saint Silas Secondary School, Old Umuahia, for supplying illicit drugs to two teenage students.

The statement further added that the suspects were arrested and handed over to the NDLEA on Thursday, 18 June 2026.

In a confessional statement, a 15‑year‑old SS2 student claimed that the 84‑year‑old grandpa supplies him with the drugs, which he takes and also sells to fellow students. The student added that the two suspects will be charged in court as soon as investigations are completed and that the students will be counseled and rehabilitated.
