Former Super Eagles captain William Troost‑Ekong says South Africa earned their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to the DAILY POST.

Bafana Bafana topped their World Cup qualifying group, which also featured the Super Eagles, securing a berth at the tournament for the first time since 2010.

The Super Eagles, by contrast, failed to qualify for the second consecutive edition after losing on penalties to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final of the African playoffs.

Troost‑Ekong said South Africa were more consistent throughout the qualifiers.

“Bafana were consistent in the qualifiers, and we were playing catch‑up from the first game, and we dropped a lot of points, so at the end they qualified and we didn’t. So, they deserve to be at the World Cup,” the centre‑back told Supersport.

South Africa will face South Korea in their final group‑stage match on Thursday.
