After Ghana finished 0‑0 against England, coach Carlos Queiroz sharply criticized the referee, saying the VAR system did not intervene in two key second‑half moments.
He argued that both England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and defender Ezri Konsa should have faced sanctions for their challenges on Prince Adu, yet neither was penalised despite vigorous protests from the Ghana bench.
The first disputed event occurred in the 66th minute when Pickford collided with Adu outside the penalty area. Queiroz called the tackle a “clear shock” and maintained that the goalkeeper ought to have received a red card.
The second incident involved Konsa, who seemed to bring Adu down as the Ghanaian striker sprinted toward the goal.
Former England striker Wayne Rooney also challenged the call, saying Konsa took a “huge risk” because he “gets the man, not the ball.”

He maintained that the two incidents had a major influence on the match result and expressed frustration that VAR did not advise any further action.
Queiroz combined frustration with sarcasm while questioning VAR’s role in the match’s pivotal moments.
He asked reporters, “Is VAR still working at the World Cup? Do we still have VAR? I have my doubts.”
He added, “The VAR referee was apparently on vacation during the second half.” He went on, “Once again, the VAR went for coffee,” and then joked, “It’s a clear penalty and a red card [for Konsa]. Do you have any doubts about that, or is it only me who was at the game?”
The Black Stars, currently second in Group L, will play Panama in their final group match on Saturday.
