Celtic will face difficulties keeping Kelechi Iheanacho for the upcoming season because the club’s option to extend his contract for an extra year has expired, leaving the Super Eagles striker’s future uncertain.
The 29‑year‑old was absent when Celtic restarted pre‑season training at Lennoxtown. The Scottish Sun reports that he is currently in Nigeria, working out independently as he looks for clarity on his next move.
Having previously played for Manchester City and Leicester City, the Super Eagles forward has expressed a desire to remain at Parkhead after contributing significantly to Celtic’s title‑winning campaign.
Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has also reportedly expressed a wish to retain him.
However, no formal contract talks have taken place, increasing uncertainty about the striker’s future at the club.
Now a free agent, Iheanacho has attracted interest from Turkish clubs that have begun presenting attractive offers to secure his services.
