A senior Iranian official, Ebrahim Azizi, has warned that further attacks on Lebanon could trigger serious consequences for both Israel and the United States.

Azizi, who chairs the national security committee of the Iranian parliament, joined other high‑ranking officials in Tehran in issuing a public caution against severe repercussions for Israeli and U.S. military forces operating in the region.

In a post on X, he said: “If the assaults on Lebanon do not cease entirely, the repercussions will be dire for the Zionist regime and US forces in the vicinity. They are fully cognizant that this is not an empty threat, and we are ready for a military response.”

In related developments, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to withdraw Israeli troops from Beirut, Lebanon’s capital, and that he had spoken with representatives of Hezbollah, who “consented to a ceasefire” against Israeli forces.

Following this, the office of Israel’s prime minister reported that Netanyahu had informed Trump that attacks on Beirut would continue if Hezbollah kept targeting “our cities and citizens,” while Israeli forces would “act as planned in southern Lebanon.”

Al Jazeera reported that Trump’s announcement of a diplomatic breakthrough after discussions with Netanyahu and Hezbollah was intended to prevent an escalation of hostilities in Lebanon that could reach the capital, Beirut.

Nevertheless, Israel maintains that its agreement with Trump is conditional, leaving the overall situation in Lebanon extremely precarious amid conflicting statements and regional tensions.
