Troops of the Nigerian Army, assisted by the Nigerian Air Force, have rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, the widow of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, former Director of Defence Information. Mrs. Abubakar had been abducted by bandits together with her husband a few weeks earlier.

Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, announced the rescue on Monday. He said the operation was the result of intensified search‑and‑rescue efforts carried out by troops of Operation Fansan Yamma.

“During sustained offensive operations and pressure mounted on the criminal elements, troops made contact with the bandits at Tunga Village, leading to the successful recovery of Mrs. Abubakar,” Uba said.

According to Uba, the bandits shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing under the heavy pressure of advancing troops.

Mrs. Abubakar was immediately evacuated and is now receiving medical care at a military hospital, where she is responding to treatment.

“The leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains committed to ensuring her full recovery and is providing all necessary support to her family during this difficult period,” Uba added.

He also stated that troops will continue operations to track down and neutralise the perpetrators, while intensifying efforts to rid affected communities of terrorists not only in Katsina but across the nation.
