Reno Omokri, Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico, said that President Bola Tinubu named him ambassador‑designate for four Central and South American countries.
He made the statement in a Facebook post after the Federal Government announced new diplomatic appointments.
The former presidential aide said his situation is distinct from other appointees because he will serve simultaneously in four countries, each with its own leadership and approval procedures.
He added that the appointment requires extra diplomatic steps, as approvals must be obtained from several foreign governments before the process is finalized.
“His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander‑in‑Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, chose to nominate me as an Ambassador to serve concurrently in four countries in Central and South America.”
“Therefore, the processes involved for me, as an envoy to four different nations with four different Presidents, differ from those of others,” he wrote.
He made the remarks after a social media user named Kachi compared his appointment timeline to that of Professor Yakubu, another ambassadorial appointee.
In reply, Omokri rejected any notion of rivalry or competition, saying he does not adopt a mindset that compares personal progress with that of others.
