Tchouaméni Encourages Senegal to Make a Positive Impact at the 2026 World Cup

France midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni says Senegal have the quality and courage to go far in the 2026 World Cup.

The African champions lost 3-1 to France at MetLife Stadium in their Group I opener.

Despite the defeat, Tchouaméni, who recorded three tackles and two interceptions in France’s midfield, praised the “Lions of Teranga.”

He noted that Senegal presented a tough challenge to the 2022 World Cup finalists.

In a conversation with Hoppen Media, Tchouaméni said that if Senegal keeps the discipline and ambition displayed in the opening hour, they will be a formidable presence in the remaining group‑stage matches.

“Yes and no. Yes, because you see them on TV all the time. They’re the African champions; you know they have a great team with great players,” Tchouaméni told Hoppen Media in an interview.

“But it’s when you actually play against them that you really realise it even more.”

“Like I said, they’re the African champions, and frankly, they’re a great team. I think they’ll do their thing in the tournament,” said Tchouaméni.

After their opening win, Les Bleus face Iraq in their next group‑stage match, aiming to build momentum for the knockout phase.

Senegal will regroup in Group I for matchday two against Norway.
