Seven people were killed in a violent clash between farmers and herders in the Lanzai and Dosho communities of Darazo Local Government Area, Bauchi State.
The Bauchi State Police Command said the violence began when suspected herders allegedly attacked farmers working on farmland on the outskirts of Lanzai.
Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib stated on Thursday that the command had received reports of the attack, which prompted a retaliatory response from local youths.
According to the police, the youths stormed Dosho—a settlement largely inhabited by Fulani herders—and set parts of the community ablaze. During the fighting, about 50 huts were destroyed and several household belongings were damaged.
Authorities confirmed that seven people lost their lives, while six others were injured and are currently receiving treatment. Several homes and personal properties were also damaged during the unrest.
To prevent further escalation, the police have deployed tactical teams and operatives to the affected communities. The Violent Crime Response Unit has been mobilised to reinforce security, and patrols have been intensified across Lanzai, Dosho, and neighbouring areas.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Sani‑Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the crisis.
He assured residents that those responsible for both the initial attack and the subsequent reprisal would be identified and brought to justice.
