The Federal Government has officially launched the reconstruction and dualization of the Gombe‑Biu highway, a project estimated at N1.245 trillion.
Minister of Works David Umahi and Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya carried out the inauguration on Thursday, representing President Bola Tinubu.
Umahi explained that the project aligns with the federal government’s infrastructure priorities.
He added that the 125‑kilometre route will be rebuilt and dualized by Hi‑Tech Construction Company, employing rigid pavement technology.
The minister also noted that the project’s scope has been increased to 139 kilometres after Governor Inuwa requested the route to include the Northern Bypass.
Governor Inuwa highlighted the highway’s role as a vital economic and social corridor that connects the Northeast with other regions of Nigeria and neighboring countries.
He said the upgrade is expected to boost trade, transportation, and regional connectivity.
“The road was originally built in 1962 and last resurfaced in 1976. We thank President Tinubu for approving the project, and we will work with the federal government and contractors to ensure its timely completion to specified standards,” the governor said.
