Premier League transfer: Three clubs best placed to sign Femi Azeez this summer

Super Eagles winger Femi Azeez is ready to make his Premier League breakthrough this summer after an outstanding Championship campaign with Millwall, Afrik Foot reports.

The 25-year-old enjoyed the finest season of his career at The Den, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists in 37 league appearances to earn a place in the EFL Championship Team of the Season.

Those numbers caught the attention of Eric Chelle, who handed Azeez his senior Super Eagles debut during the 2026 Unity Cup, an appearance the winger marked in style, scoring twice as Nigeria defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 in the semi-finals before helping the Eagles retain the trophy.

Sources close to the situation have confirmed to Footy-Africa that Azeez is keen to test himself in the Premier League, and Millwall are prepared to sanction a sale if their valuation of around €20 million is met, although they’ve already declined an offer worth more from Ipswich Town.

The question posed for the winger’s next club is which Premier League side is best positioned to give him the environment in which he can thrive.

Three Premier League clubs best-placed to sign Femi Azeez

1. Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton is the most natural fit for Azeez of the three suitors. Fabian Hurzeler’s system is built around dynamic, direct wide players capable of driving at defenders in one-on-one situations, creating chances through pressing and transition, and Azeez’s profile slots into that framework with precision.

Brighton’s track record with young players from outside the Premier League is unmatched in English football.

The club has consistently taken players at the development stage, from lesser-known leagues and lower divisions, and turned them into world-class talents.

Azeez, arriving from the Championship with raw numbers that justify the investment, fits that model exactly.

The Amex Stadium is also a welcoming environment for a player making his Premier League debut, holding little to no pressure for winning titles.

Additionally, will be competing in the Conference League next season, giving the Nigerian a platform to perform in European competitions, while standing a chance to win silverware.

Brighton have already signed Zadok Yohanna, also signalling a club actively leaning into Nigerian talent, and adding Azeez would further strengthen that connection.

2. Bournemouth

The Cherries have built their entire recruitment strategy around identifying Championship performers who are ready to break into top-flight football, with Antoine Semenyo being the latest example.

The club have also shown they’re a ground where youngsters can take their game to the next level. Dean Huijsen, Kroupi, Rayan, and Ilya Zabarnyi are proof that Azeez can perform at the Vitality Stadium.

3. Aston Villa

Villa’s interest is the most high-profile of the three, but also the most significant obstacle. Unai Emery is actively pursuing Crysencio Summerville as his attacking target, and the Dutch winger’s Premier League experience and World Cup performances this summer give him an advantage over Azeez.

The financial argument is where Villa’s interest in Azeez makes most sense. Millwall’s €20 million valuation is considerably cheaper than West Ham’s €50 million asking price for Summerville.

If Emery is prioritising squad depth as well as first-team quality, particularly with Champions League football on the table, Azeez’s versatility across the right wing and attacking midfield positions makes him an attractive option rather than a compromise.

The risk for Azeez is taking the jump from the EFL Championship to Champions League football, which is a significant leap, and a player arriving in that environment as a squad member, rather than a guaranteed starter, could find his development stalling at the very moment it needs to accelerate.

For his Super Eagles career ahead of AFCON 2027, regular Premier League minutes matter far more than a prestigious club badge.

Of the three, Brighton offers the clearest pathway to consistent first-team football in a system that suits his strengths. Bournemouth offer the same guarantee in a slightly lower-profile environment. Villa offer the biggest stage but the smallest guarantee of minutes.
