The Jigawa State Police Command announced significant progress in its anti‑crime campaign, reporting the recovery of a stolen vehicle, four motorcycles, seven cows, three sheep, and more than 5,800 illicit drugs during a series of operations across the state.
In a statement released on Saturday by Police Public Relations Officer SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, the successes were attributed to intelligence gathering, community support, and proactive policing.
Police said that on May 15, two suspects—Isiyaku Isah, 26, and Musa Yakubu, 25—were arrested in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area with a motorcycle believed to have been stolen from Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The suspects admitted to the theft, and investigators are working to identify and return the motorcycle to its rightful owner.
During an operation on May 19, officers collaborating with local security volunteers recovered two motorcycles, one cow, and three sheep after chasing suspected thieves in Malam Madori. The suspects abandoned the items and fled into nearby bushes.
On the same day, police arrested Emos Monday from Karshi, Abuja, for allegedly diverting a company vehicle assigned to him for an official trip to Kano State. The stolen Toyota Hiace bus was recovered following intelligence‑led tracking.
On May 21, two men—Umar Garba and Abubakar Adam—were apprehended for stealing a motorcycle. Investigators discovered that the suspects had changed the motorcycle’s colour from red to black in an attempt to conceal its identity.
The command also reported that on May 20, officers intercepted a vehicle carrying four cows suspected of being stolen along the Kano–Maiduguri Road in Kiyawa Local Government Area. Five suspects were arrested, and the vehicle and livestock were taken into police custody.
In another cattle‑rustling case, Nabagara Bura and Sale Adamu were arrested on May 22 with two cows believed to have been stolen from Shanwure village in Auyo Local Government Area.
Police conducted raids on criminal hideouts across the state, recovering 5,886 assorted illicit drugs and N28,750, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales. Several suspected drug dealers were arrested during the operation.
Commissioner of Police Haruna A. Yahaya praised the officers and vigilante groups who assisted the police, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
“The Command reiterates its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state and urges residents to continue providing timely and credible information that will aid ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements,” the statement said, adding that all suspects would be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
