Police officers from the Ogun State Police Command have arrested six suspects in a series of intelligence‑driven operations carried out across Abeokuta, Wasimi and Ibafo.
The suspects are alleged to have engaged in illegal possession of firearms, armed intimidation, theft, conspiracy and the receipt of stolen property.
The arrested individuals are Moruf Sodiq, also known as “Okiki”; Mumuni Amodu, alias “Stone”; Abayomi John, alias “Ibafo”; Mr Adeboye Ojesina; Afisu Awesu; and Bala Aminu.
DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, spokesperson for the command, told DAILY POST on Wednesday that the arrests followed credible, time‑sensitive intelligence.
Babaseyi explained that Sodiq, popularly known as Okiki, was linked to a coordinated generator‑theft network operating in Abeokuta and its environs. Amodu, aka Stone, was identified as the receiver of the stolen property, while John was the motorcyclist who allegedly transported the suspects during their operations.
During a rapid search of Stone’s premises, officers recovered four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator and nine Android mobile phones.
The spokesperson added that Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) operatives apprehended 58‑year‑old Adeboye Ojesina for theft, unlawful possession of firearms and the alleged use of those weapons to threaten residents in Wasimi and nearby communities.
A prompt search yielded one locally fabricated pistol, one pump‑action rifle, two live cartridges and one spent cartridge.
According to Babaseyi, Ojesina initially denied ownership but later admitted that he had recovered the pistol in the area and fired a round to test it. He also claimed that the pump‑action rifle had been handed to him by an unidentified individual who is currently being tracked by officers.
Operatives attached to Ibafo Division, acting on a theft complaint at a site in Igbeti Sote Village via Ibafo, arrested Afisu Awesu while he was attempting to steal a forklift engine component with an accomplice who escaped.
Further investigation revealed that the suspects had previously stolen forklift tyres from the same location and disposed of them to Bala Aminu “M” of Kara, Ibafo. Acting without delay, detectives arrested Bala Aminu as the alleged receiver of the stolen property.
“All suspects are currently in custody while a discreet investigation continues, as efforts are ongoing to apprehend other persons connected to the crimes,” Babaseyi said. “The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.”
Meanwhile, State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised the swift response, professionalism and operational efficiency of the VCRU, SWAT and Ibafo Division for the successful operations.
The Commissioner reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to rapid, intelligence‑driven policing and sustained pressure on criminal elements to ensure they have no space to operate within Ogun State.
