Gunmen carried out an ambush that killed Saf Samuel Alaket, the District Head of Gwande in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. The attack took place along the Sha District axis that borders the Daffo community.

Witnesses say the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday while the traditional ruler was returning home after attending the popular Tuesday market in Daffo.

Alaket had previously attended a traditional council meeting in Bokkos before setting out for Gwande. Residents report that the attackers struck his vehicle near the boundary between Sha District and Daffo.

The monarch sustained severe injuries during the attack and was rushed to a nearby clinic for emergency care. Despite the efforts of medical staff to stabilise him, he later died from his wounds.

Mr. Aten Pukat, a community member, confirmed the incident and described the death as a painful loss for the people of Gwande and the wider Bokkos area. He said the attack has left the Bokkos Traditional Council and residents in mourning, noting that the district head was widely respected for his work in promoting peace and community development.

Pukat added that condolences have continued to come from traditional institutions, community leaders and sympathisers following the tragic event.

Attempts to contact the Plateau police command spokesman, SP Alfred Alabo, for further comments were unsuccessful.
