Oyo Govt declares Tuesday work free day

The Oyo State Government has declared Tuesday a work‑free day to mark the beginning of the Islamic calendar year Hijrah 1448 AH.

The announcement was made in Ibadan on Monday by the state commissioner for information and civic orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade.

Oyelade explained that the government recognises the significance of Hijrah for Muslims, noting that it commemorates the Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD. He said the event is a time for reflection, prayer, and community spirit.

“As a gesture of respect and solidarity with the Muslim community, the government has declared Tuesday a work‑free day in the state,” the commissioner said.

He urged Muslims to use the day to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in the state and the nation, and to reflect on the teachings of Hijrah. Oyelade called for a spirit of solidarity and brotherhood, highlighting the importance of fostering understanding and respect among diverse communities through shared prayers and communal activities.
