Four people have been killed and two others injured after a shooting linked to suspected cult activity in the Post Office area of Ilorin, Kwara State.
The incident was reported in a statement released on 15 June 2026 by the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire‑Adeyemi.
According to the statement, the attack took place at about 9:00 pm on Sunday when a group of armed men allegedly stormed a bamboo bar along the railway line and opened fire on people present before fleeing the scene.
Police responded to a distress call and transported the victims to the Police Clinic for treatment.
Medical personnel confirmed that four of the victims were dead, while two others sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving care.
Preliminary police investigations suggest the attack may be cult‑related.
The statement also revealed that two suspected members of a cult group connected to the incident have been arrested.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the incident is cult‑related. Comprehensive investigations led to the arrest of two suspected members of a notorious and deadly cult group linked to the attack,” the statement said.
The police added that the suspects are in custody and are cooperating with investigators, providing information to help identify and arrest other individuals involved.
Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, condemned the incident, calling it a threat to public peace and safety.
The command said that tactical, intelligence and covert operations have been activated to locate other suspects linked to the shooting.
Police also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged residents to supply any useful information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
The command reassured the public that measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the state.
