OSOGBO — Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, has urged traditional rulers across Yorubaland to deepen cooperation among themselves and to support ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity in their communities.

The call came during the grand finale of the 2026 Ifa Festival, where the monarch expressed concern over security challenges in parts of the country and highlighted the role of traditional institutions in fostering peace and stability.

In a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Moses Olafare, the Ooni asked traditional leaders to work closely with government authorities, security agencies, and community stakeholders to address criminal activities.

He emphasized the importance of drawing on the values, cultural heritage, and communal traditions that have historically promoted peace, justice, and social cohesion.

“We must rise collectively against insecurity. Our people deserve to live in peace and move freely without fear. Traditional rulers must continue to play active roles in safeguarding their communities while supporting the efforts of government and security agencies,” the monarch said.

The Ooni noted that insecurity remains a significant challenge that requires a coordinated response from all segments of society.

He also praised the Federal Government’s efforts to improve security across the country and called for greater cooperation among traditional institutions, religious leaders, community groups, and citizens.

“This is a time for unity. Government alone cannot address every security challenge. Traditional institutions, religious leaders, community stakeholders, and citizens must work together in support of efforts aimed at securing the country,” he said.

During the festival, the Ooni also offered prayers for the safe return of schoolchildren and teachers who were reportedly abducted in separate incidents in Oyo and Borno states. He described the incidents as unfortunate and expressed hope that those affected would be safely reunited with their families.
