Suspected gunmen have abducted Mr. Gbenga Sanni, an official of Akure North Local Government, in the Ilu‑Abo community of Akure, Ondo State.

The abduction took place in front of Sanni’s home in the Agbelere area of Ilu‑Abo.

According to Vanguard, the attackers allegedly emerged from a nearby bush and carried Sanni to an unknown location.

Sanni, a native of Akunu‑Akoko in Akoko North‑West Local Government Area, had just returned home when the incident occurred.

Witnesses reported that Sanni’s wife and two children were inside the house at the time and watched the gunmen as they carried out the operation.

“Three armed men came out of the nearby bush and whisked the victim away,” a source said.

Earlier this month, no fewer than three residents of the community were also kidnapped.

The latest abduction has heightened fear among residents and raised concerns about increasing insecurity in the area.

Police spokesperson DSP Jimoh Abayomi confirmed the abduction and said that officers and tactical teams had been deployed to the area to secure a safe rescue of the victim and apprehend those responsible.

Residents say the incident has intensified anxiety over rising insecurity in parts of Ondo State.
