Neymar will not be part of Brazil’s squad for the World Cup group match against Haiti on Friday, as he continues to recover from a calf injury.
The 34‑year‑old returned to training with the national team only this week and missed the opening 1‑1 draw with Morocco in Group C, which marked the team’s first match of the tournament.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti had expressed hope last week that Neymar could be available for the Haiti game in Philadelphia.
In late May, Neymar was diagnosed with a right‑calf injury. He has played in only half of Santos’ matches this season because of various fitness problems.
Both Ancelotti and the coaching staff are cautious about rushing the player’s return, fearing it could jeopardise his participation in later fixtures, according to Brazilian media.
According to a message sent to journalists on Thursday, the Brazilian Football Confederation said Neymar “will remain in New Jersey to make the most of the final stage of his recovery process.”
Brazil’s next group‑stage match is against Scotland in Miami on June 24.
