The Nasarawa State Police Command has stepped up its enforcement of vehicle registration rules, seizing 27 vehicles and prosecuting 19 motorists for offenses such as unregistered and defaced number plates.

Police spokesperson SP Ramhan Nansel said in a statement on Thursday, 18 June 2026, that the arraigned motorists were charged with a range of offenses, including driving unregistered vehicles, using covered or defaced number plates, operating vehicles with unauthorized foreign registration plates, and displaying manufacturer logos in place of approved registration numbers.

Nansel explained that the operation followed a directive from Inspector‑General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu to conduct a nationwide crackdown on vehicles violating registration laws.

He noted that unregistered vehicles and obscured number plates present serious security risks because they are often used by criminals to conceal identities and evade law enforcement.

Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State Shetima Jauro Mohammed addressed the exercise, urging officers and operatives to maintain enforcement efforts throughout the state.

Mohammed emphasized that the initiative aims to improve public safety rather than punish law‑abiding citizens. “The initiative is not intended to inconvenience law‑abiding citizens but to enhance public safety and strengthen crime prevention efforts,” he said.

He urged vehicle owners to ensure their cars are properly registered and fitted with valid, clearly visible number plates at all times. Motorists who violate the laws will continue to face arrest and prosecution, the commissioner added.

The Police Command called on the public to cooperate, stressing that effective enforcement of vehicle registration laws is key to combating crime and improving security across the state.

Reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property, the Command assured residents that security‑enhancing measures would be sustained.
