Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori of Kano State has declared that the state will not serve as a sanctuary for criminals and fraudsters.
The statement was released to journalists on Sunday by Police Public Relations Officer CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
The warning was issued during the handover of recovered stolen vehicles to their owners.
The statement noted that, over the past week, intelligence‑led operations by the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and Badawa Division recovered four stolen vehicles during coordinated actions across Kano, Yobe, and Kaduna states.
“One of the major breakthroughs involved the arrest of a suspect, Suleiman Umar, in Damaturu, Yobe State, over the alleged use of a fake bank alert to fraudulently obtain a red Kia Forte valued at N9.5 million from a Lagos‑based automobile dealer. The suspect reportedly confessed to the offence, and the vehicle was recovered and returned to its owner.”
In another operation, police recovered a red Dalhatsu Sirion that had been stolen from outside its owner's home in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State. The vehicle was found abandoned, and police are still pursuing the suspects.
The command also recovered an ash‑coloured Hyundai Elantra, allegedly stolen from an event centre in Kano. Police said the suspects abandoned the vehicle in Zaria, Kaduna State, during a tactical operation before fleeing.
Likewise, a Toyota ambulance owned by EHA Special Hospital, which had been stolen together with solar batteries and other valuables after attackers assaulted security guards, was found abandoned on Zaria Road and returned to the hospital.
Owners, upon receiving their vehicles, praised the Kano State Police Command for its swift response and professionalism.
The Commissioner warned that criminals engaged in vehicle theft and fraud would find no refuge in Kano State.

He urged the public to keep providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing investigations and improve public safety.
