The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied a viral claim that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Akwukwu Igbo, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State was suspended because of a faulty machine.
In a statement released on Friday, Mrs. Nseabasi Udom, Head of Voter Education and Publicity at INEC, called the report false, misleading, and not issued by the commission.
INEC clarified that the registration exercise is continuing in accordance with its approved rotation schedule.
The commission noted that the CVR was moved to Ibusa earlier on Thursday, where the exercise proceeded successfully.
It added that the registration centre at Akwukwu Igbo will resume operations from July 6 to July 10, as part of the structured local‑government‑area schedule.
INEC urged residents of Akwukwu Igbo and neighbouring communities to ignore the viral message and rely only on official INEC communication channels for accurate updates.
Eligible voters were advised to continue with their registration and update exercises as scheduled, without concern for cancellation or disruption.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent, credible, and accessible CVR process throughout the state.
It also assured all eligible residents that they have an equal opportunity to participate in the electoral process.
