Senator Rufai Sani Hanga has responded to the recent reshuffling of the 2027 election strategy, which now assigns the Kano Central Senate seat to former Kano deputy governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna.
Kwankwasiyya leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso previously revealed that Gawuna, who had been expected to run for governor under the NDC, would instead pursue the Senate position.
Speaking with local media in Kano, Hanga, who currently holds the Senate seat for the district, said the decision was fair and the result of internal discussions within the Kwankwasiyya movement.
He emphasized that Gawuna was not simply handed the ticket without consultation, noting that party leaders met and debated the matter before reaching a final verdict.
According to Hanga, the outcome was just, and he is not upset because the movement considered what would best serve its political future.
“In our Kwankwasiyya movement, we are all one family. The question is, how do we arrange things in a way that will bring victory? How do we ensure everyone feels carried along? That is our approach,” he said.
Hanga added that the movement is aware of Gawuna’s political influence and support base.
“We know his strength, and we know the people behind him,” he stated.
He said this recognition of Gawuna’s appeal was a key factor in selecting him for the Senate race, underscoring the goal of collective effort and shared success within the movement.
