Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the National Democratic Congress candidate for governor of Kano State and former deputy governor, has voiced concerns about the escalating security problems in parts of the state.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, Gwarzo noted that criminal activity has risen in both urban and rural areas, with residents experiencing frequent attacks, killings and kidnappings.
He described the situation as alarming, adding that many people now live in fear because of the increasing violence.
Gwarzo also criticized the Kano State government, claiming it has failed to adequately protect lives and property despite repeated complaints from residents across the state.
He said that several local government areas have suffered serious attacks that have resulted in deaths and significant property losses.
He stated: “What is happening in some parts of Kano is deeply troubling. In some places, many people have been killed, their property taken away, while others have been kidnapped, and their fate remains unknown.”
Gwarzo further argued that insecurity is no longer confined to rural areas, pointing out that killings and attacks are also being reported within Kano city.
He said the situation underscores the need to review current security strategies to ensure lasting peace and safety across the state.
